Margie Henry is a dynamic product manager with a passion for lifelong learning and building impactful solutions. Her career began in the nonprofit sector, where she designed data collection programs to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations for human services organizations. Over time, her curiosity led her to explore data analytics roles, where she thrived in unblocking engineering teams, aligning projects with business goals, and driving strategic initiatives. Wanting to automate common analytics reports, Margie began learning Python.
Applying what she learned through online classes, and while doing side-projects for small businesses, Margie soon picked up enough skills to get her first job in software engineering. With great managers and mentors, and the luck to have worked at a company that encouraged and rewarded technical exploration Margie was able to hone skills in Natural Language Processing (NLP), Machine Learning model training, and data engineering while deeply engaged in data governance and AI ethics.
In 2020, Margie accepted an Engineering Product Manager role within Apple’s Machine Learning Platform Technology group. After a year of not adjusting to the size and politics of working at a FAANG, Margie left the smokey Upper West Coast for sunny Atlanta, where she spends her time exploring with her partner, renovating their dream home, painting, sculpting, learning about permaculture gardening, supporting a community data project, and raising two extra large German Shepards. Margie loves traveling and has taken trips to Martinique, Switzerland, Italy, Turkey, France, and Morocco since the pandemic ended.
Margie’s interest in turning data into insight began in university where she studied statistics and Sociology. She holds a MA in Art, Youth and Community Development. She believes that communities should always be involved in making the decisions needed for them to thrive (#NothingForUsWithoutUs) and works to help everyday people build data literacy and understand the importance of data sovereignty in this new AI-powered digital age.
